Anurag Kashyap: Dibakar already predicted SHANGHAI's fate

By Rachana Sheth, Glamsham Editorial

Despite the starry reviews and heavy anticipations, the latest release SHANGHAI failed to entice the audience. And the one man who is highly taken aback with its lukewarm response is, no not the director Dibakar Banerjee as one may expect so, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Anurag dearly loved the film and was quite optimistic about the film getting great response from all over. "I loved SHANGHAI. I am sad about people not liking a film like SHANGHAI," says Anurag.

Ask Anurag how he feels when he sees ROWDY RATHORE and DABANNGs of the world minting money and a film like SHANGHAI given a cold shoulder and he says, "I am not sad about any film making money but it does make me feel re-think things like when SHANGHAI does not do the way I hoped it would."

In fact Anurag was more hopeful about SHANGHAI than Dibakar. "When I sat down with Dibakar, a week before the release of SHANGHAI, I was the one who was more hopeful about it than Dibakar. Dibakar already predicted the scenario and said 'jyaada excited mat ho picture itna hi karegi aur chalegi'," Anurag reveals

Nevertheless, Anurag is still upbeat about SHANGHAI clicking with the audience.

"Dibakar is more realistic and I am hopeful. I am always an optimistic person. See sometimes things just happen. When PAAN SINGH TOMAR turned around and did well I was very happy about it. Now SHANGHAI did not but I am still hoping that tomorrow it will do well," says the filmmaker on a parting note.
